Visiting a fairytale: new park in Nagatino

On April 4, the chief architect of Moscow Sergey Kuznetsov presented to the Mayor of Moscow Sergei Sobyanin a project for an amusement park specifically for children, the first of its kind in Moscow. It will occupy an area of 250 thousand square meters in the Nagatinsky floodplain close to Andropov Avenue. Our version of “Disneyland” will differ favorably from foreign counterparts with its greater focus on entertainment rather than on commerce.

Happiness is not found in money!

The children’s park will be divided into two parts — a landscaped recreational area in the open air and an indoor DreamWorks themed complex with a total area of 80,000 square meters, in which the characters and the worlds of the animated films that are most popular among young viewers will be recreated. Created in the image and likeness of the famous Disneyland, the Moscow park will have one major difference: the main part of its territory will be occupied by green spaces, and sports and leisure facilities, while the portion of thematic commerce will not exceed 40% of the total (compared to the Disneyland complexes in Paris and Tokyo which devote to commerce 60% of their area, and Hollywood Park — 73%).

At the briefing session Sergey Kuznetsov noted that most of the attractions will be indoors — this is necessary to ensure that the park is open year round. And the new Ferris wheel is likely to be the largest in Moscow!

“Unbreakable Union”

In addition to the DreamWorks indoor park, a themed pavilion of the legendary film studio “Soyuzmultfilm” (“animation film union”) will also be created on the territory of the Nagatinsky floodplain. In this pavilion the younger generations will be able to get aquainted with new domestic cartoons, as well as the classics of Soviet and Russian animation.

A multiplex cinema will be devoted to this very purpose — on the territory of the park it will not only be possible to socialize with cartoon characters, but also to see them on the big screen.

All 33 amusements

The main functional areas of the future park will also include a children’s sailing school, an ice rink, a food court and children’s cafe, a department store of children’s products and a concert hall with a total capacity of up to 5000 people.

With regard to the existing green spaces of the floodplain area (the area of the former “Park named after the 60th anniversary of the October Revolution”), it will be carefully renewed and transformed into a landscaped park with an extensive network of hiking and biking trails and a large selection of children’s and sports grounds.

Magic carpet not required

The Moscow children’s amusement park is planned to be visited by up to 4 million people annually, so the Moscow Government will be serious in its approach to address the issue of the park’s accessibility.

First of all, already in 2015 the “Technopark” metro station will open with direct access to the “territory of entertainment.” In addition, located in the immediate vicinity will be the “ZIL” passenger platform of the Small Ring of the Moscow Railway. And lastly, the reconstruction of the South River Station will make the new park accessible by the Moscow River as well.

According to Sergey Kuznetsov, the project will take two to three years to complete. Construction is scheduled to begin later this year.
