Public to select 26 new neighborhood parks
An opinion poll has been initiated by the Moscow Department of Housing, Utilities and Amenities via the Active Citizen mobile app. A vote will be held to choose 26 new neighborhood parks in Moscow. The questions are whether a park is needed at a particular address and how to improve it. Muscovites will also be able to assist in the creation of the parks, which are scheduled for completion next year.
Only residents of districts where the parks will possibly be opened can take part in the survey. Based on the online voting results, prefectures will provide design and estimate documents for each of the parks. The completed projects will be submitted for the consideration of deputies at the districts’ municipal assemblies and if they approve the plans, the parks will be created in 2015, according to Alla Tokareva, the head of the Information and Analytical Department at Moszelenkhoz.
The neighbourhood park project is targeted at improving the areas within walking distance from people’s homes under the Leisure Industry in Public Park Areas programme. As part of the programme, more than 100 neighbourhood parks with a total area of 200 hectares opened in Moscow in 2013-2014.
