Sergei Sobyanin: Moscow will continue renovating bridges, tunnels

“We have expanded motor road and interchange construction volumes several times over, but it is no less important that we maintain structures that were built 30-50 years ago,” Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said. “Therefore a program for rebuilding and upgrading overpasses, bridges and pedestrian crossings has been approved,” he noted. “We have been rebuilding about 100 road structures in the past two years. This program is almost complete, and most of these interchanges have been rebuilt,” he added.

Under a 2013 program to renovate pedestrian underpasses, the city upgraded 12 underpasses, and there were plans to renovate an additional 86 underpasses in 2014. Moreover, 29 pedestrian crossings are being renovated during the modernization of Moscow’s radial routes. Timely repairs and maintenance will extend the service life of these road structures by several decades.
