Metro Chief Dmitry Pegov: Infrastructure Development Programs Not to Be Affected

“So far we are not reducing anything, and we are determined to carry out our plans as announced,” Mr Pegov said.

According to him, the Kotelniki station will open at the end of March. “The station is 98 percent complete. Kotelniki is an important transit point. I believe that it will be one of the largest transit hubs in Moscow and the Moscow region,” he said.

A total of eight stations are due to open before the end of the year. “Work is in progress. These stations will be opened in the near future, but there will be some insignificant changes in the timetable,” he added.

The Moscow metro system will also implement a track and escalator replacement program. “This year the metro will continue technological service operations. We plan to replace 90 kilometers of tracks,” he said, adding that this is 95 percent more than last year.

The metro authorities will take into account commuters’ opinion about the convenience of train carriages. To that end, a full-scale model of one of the 768 new metro carriages that will be put into operation in 2017 will be installed at the National Exhibition of Economic Achievements (VDNKh).

“We will seek to take into account all suggestions from our riders so that the carriages can be made even more comfortable,” he added.
