Contest launched for an architectural and urban development concept for reorganising the territory of the Serp i Molot Plant

10 September 2013

An international contest for a development concept for the territory of the Serp i Molot Moscow Metallurgical Plant has been launched. Registration of applications for participation will run until 9 October. After registration, qualification of bidders will be conducted and a short list of five finalist teams will be formed. In December 2013, the results of the contest will be finalised, Karima Nigmatulina, Acting Director of the General Moscow Urban Development Research and Design Institute, said.

The total area of the plant is 87 hectares. The client of the contest is Don-Stroy-Invest, and the organiser is the General Moscow Urban Development Research and Design Institute.

The aim of the contest is to develop an architectural and urban development concept for the multifunctional development of the territory, including building social facilities. The project must include a general development plan, a plan for vehicle and pedestrian traffic as well as an architectural concept for each site on the territory of the plant.

Following the new comprehensive development of the area, Moscow will have a modern housing quarter with schools, kindergartens, outpatient clinics, community centres, green zones and new generation office buildings. The new district will be close to the Ploshchad Ilyicha and Aviamotornaya metro stations and to the Serp i Molot railway platform on the Moscow-Gorky route of the Moscow Railway. This will provide the new district with good transport access.
