The results of the competition for the reconstruction of the Prostor complex have been announced

First place in the open competition for the architectural concept for the Prostor bakery and confectionary complex is shared by the consortium teams Arkhstroydesign ASD + AB MANIPULAZIONE INTERNAZIONALE and Progress + Mosproekt 2.

Having collected an equal number of points in the voting of the jury, both consortium teams Arkhstroydesign ASD + AB MANIPULAZIONE INTERNAZIONALE and Progress + Mosproekt 2 now have an equal chance to become the general designer of the site under reconstruction.

The Prostor complex, one of the branches of the Cheryomushki confectionary and bakery complex in Moscow, is the first industrial facility which in leaving behind its production function, will radically change the architectural appearance of not only its buildings, but also the adjacent neighborhood.

The complex is to become the dominant urban site in its area not only because of the scale of the territory, but also due to the quality of the new architectural concept.

In this way, the competition reflects the important for modern cities trend of integrating industrial buildings into the urban environment and changing the attitudes of citizens to such sites.

The architectural concept was to be focused on the new architectural appearance of the facades of three buildings in the complex, as well as landscaping the adjacent territory. The designs which scored a record number of points, offer two reconstruction strategies for the customer’s final choice: a more discreet and composed one in the design by Progress + Mosproekt 2, and a more vibrant one with a patterned design of the facades by Arkhstroydesign ASD + AB MANIPULAZIONE INTERNAZIONALE.

The jury decided that these were in fact two first places, there was no second place, and the following were:

Thus, the jury marked a significant separation between the leaders and the contenders, although it was recognized that both leading projects have many shortcomings and are being considered more as a strategies, and the projects will be further refined and developed in detail.

The final winner will be determined during the negotiations between the competition’s customer and the teams. As emphasized by Sergey Shchedrin, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Cheryomushki bakery and confectionary complex (of which Prostor is a branch), to be discussed are the particular qualities and the cost of the future implementation of the proposed designs, as well as the legal aspects of cooperation, and the results of the negotiations will be reasons for favoring a particular contestant.

The open national two-stage competition for the architectural concept of the reconstruction design of the Prostor bakery and confectionary complex (within the framework of production expansion) was launched on May 14, 2014. The first stage received 21 applications, out of which at the first meeting of the jury chaired by Levon Ayrapetov on July 3, 2014, 6 finalist teams were selected which then submitted their proposals by September 5, 2014.
