Competition Announced for the Best Name of the New Museum on Red Square

Museums of the Moscow Kremlin announced a contest for the best name of the new complex on Red Square, the construction of which should be completed in 2021. 

Anyone over 14 years old can take part. The selection of materials is carried out online in three stages. Works are accepted until April 15. Then, until May 15, they will be selected.

The participants will be judged by 12 judges, including the special representative of the President of Russia for international cultural cooperation Mikhail Shvydkoy, Chief Architect of Moscow Sergey Kuznetsov, and Pesident of the Pushkin Museum Irina Antonova, pianist Denis Matsuev, street artist Pokras Lampas and others.

The winners will be determined on the International Museum Day, May 18 2020. The competition results will be published on the website and in the social networks of the Moscow Kremlin Museums. The authors of the three best names will be awarded memorable gifts. The new museum complex will be located in the former Middle Trade Rows, built in 1889-1893 on the basis of a project of Roman Klein.

The historic building forms an enclosed space of almost rectangular shape, which will be connected to the main building with glass galleries. The building will house collections from the Armory, collections in storerooms, as well as Byzantine antiquities, works by Carl Faberge, collections of Old Russian art and Russian art of the 16th-17th centuries, a collection of banners and much more. The exposition dedicated to the court culture of the 18th century will be located in a separate room.

In addition to exhibition spaces, the complex, whose area will be more than 80 thousand square meters, will be equipped with conference rooms, a lecture hall, a children’s center, recreation areas, cafés and shops.
