Winners of Moscow Architectural Prize-2021 Announced
Five projects in five nominations became winners of the Moscow City Prize in the Field of Architecture and Urban Planning 2021 (Moscow Architectural Prize). According to the Chief Architect of the capital, chairman of the jury of the award Sergey Kuznetsov, for the first time a Moscow metro station was included in the number of prize winners. The award is another evidence of the high level at which transport infrastructure projects are being made today.
This year, the award has again broken the record in the maximum number of submitted projects. The organizing committee accepted 140 applications — the largest number in the entire history of the award. As Sergey Kuznetsov noted, the expert council had to do a lot of work to select 38 nominees in 5 nominations, and even more — to select 5 winners.
In the nomination «The Best Architectural and Urban Planning Solution for an Object of Temporary and Permanent Residence», the winner of the 2021 prize was the project of a complex of apartments on Slavyanskaya Square by Tsimailo Lyashenko and Partners architectural bureau.
The winner in the nomination «The best architectural and urban planning solution of a social infrastructure object» was the project «Secondary school for 1225 students» by Atrium architectural studio. In the nomination «The best architectural and urban planning solution of a transport infrastructure object», the judges named the project of the Mnevniki metro station developed by ABTB LLC as the best one. In the nomination «The best architectural and urban planning solution for an apartment building under the renovation program» the winner was the project of a house on Malaya Tulskaya designed by Kapstroyproekt JSC.
The jury decided to award the prize in the nomination «The best architectural and urban planning solution for an administrative, business and commercial facility» to the project of the National Space Center complex developed by UNK Project.
«For the second year in a row, projects of schools have won in the nominations dedicated to the social sphere. I am very glad that standard solutions have been replaced by individual ones, and, moreover, of such a high level. Today, in this area, many interesting solutions are presented. They are aimed at optimizing the space, its multifunctionality, promoting the project to the educational process, creativity and recreation of schoolchildren and teachers. It is pleasant to note that in Moscow they find a worthy understanding and application. Another achievement that I would like to mention is the development of the nomination for transport projects, which appeared only last year, and the victory of the metro station in it. This project has already been implemented, the opening took place in the spring, so anyone can evaluate the architect’s work not only in visualization, but also in reality. The metro stations in the form we see them today is our common great professional victory»- said Sergey Kuznetsov.
Moscow Architectural Prize was established in 2017 with the support of Mayor of Moscow Sergey Sobyanin. Every year, capital construction projects that received a certificate of approved architectural and urban planning decisions in the previous year can are submitted for the award. Voting for the best projects takes place in two stages.
At the first stage a list of nominations and nominees is formed, at the second stage the winners are selected. The winners receive up to 5 prizes in the amount of 1 million rubles each. Over the past years, 37 people have become winners of the prize. The names of this year’s winners are given in the decree of the Mayor of Moscow No. 36-UM dated June 23, 2021 «On the awarding of the Moscow city prizes 2021 in the field of architecture and urban planning.»
