Neoclassics and poetry: the new season at VDNKh’s Green Theatre

The Water Stage opens its second season on 2 June. This open-air stage opened last year to become one of Moscow’s most important concert venues.

“We can say with certainty that the first season was a real success. In 2017, it opened with concerts for charity foundations. The new programme will have the traditional series of free weekend concerts,” Deputy Mayor of Moscow for Economic Policy, Property and Land Relations Natalya Sergunina said.

Khalilov Moscow Military Music School starswill grace the opening of the season. Their performance will open the 4th Annual Contest of Concert Bands, which will take place at the National Exhibition of Economic Achievements (VDNKh). The contest will bring together dozens of bands from all over Russia to conclude with a big gala concert.

For the second season in a row, the VDNKh Green Theatre. The Water Stage will also be the venue of summer academic music concerts called Neoclassics. This year, the stage will welcome pianists Polina Osetinskaya, Ilya Beshevli, and Kirill Rikhter.

Poet Irina Astakhova, known in Russia under her pen name Akh Astakhova, will give a recital on 29 June. 8 July will see a concert by Mariam Merabova and Project Miraif, and another concert, by Pyotr Nalich and his band will take place on 12 July.

The Green Theatre has an amphitheatre style stage and auditorium with 740 seats on the banks of Ostankino Pond. The building resembles an art object and has become an attraction for park visitors.
