Transformation: Serp i Molot Industrial Zone

Symbol Residential complex, which is actively being built on the territory of the Serp i Molot plant in Lefortovo, is a good example of the development of industrial zones and their return to urban life. 

The residential complex is being created by the best architects of Europe and Russia: British bureaus LDA DESIGN and UHA LONDON, Moscow workshops ATRIUM and MOSPROEKT-1. The development is characterized by: expressive silhouette and unusual "bionic" forms of buildings, individual architecture of each house, high-tech materials, pronounced relief of facades, large glass areas, green areas and unusual playgrounds.

The territory of the former Serp i Molot plant is located in close proximity to the historic center of Moscow. Occupying one of the key places in the planning structure of the city, this site has a high potential for urban development. However, the existing use of the territory and the development of the industrial zone do not meet, to a large extent, modern urban planning and environmental requirements: the site is used ineffectively, not well-maintained and not greened. 

The reorganization of industrial zones is one of the priorities for Moscow development, as well as one of the tools for creating a high-quality urban environment. On the recommendation of the Moscow Architectural Council, which reviewed the project for the development of the territory, the owners decided to hold an international competition for the development of an architectural and urban planning concept for reorganizing the territory of the Serp i Molot plant, which, according to the organizers, should become a new example of a high-quality architectural and urban planning environment. 

The result of the urban planning transformation will be the formation of an urban environment commensurate with the person and the spatial environment, the development of a system of open public spaces and recreational areas, ensuring environmental safety, social attractiveness and economic efficiency of the use of the projected territory as the largest "growth point" in the reorganization of the industrial zone of the city.
