The Spartak stadium and metro station to open in summer 2014

10 February 2014

The construction of the stadium is financed by the investor.

The Spartak multipurpose sports centre will include a stadium, a separate multi-sport indoor arena for 12,000 spectators, and four training fields. Various sports competitions, cultural events and concerts are to be held at the centre.

The assembly of the metal structures of the stadium roof covering the spectators’ stalls has been completed. The stadium will have an energy-efficient lighting system. Two hotels are to be built nearby.

The Spartak metro station will open in June to ensure the transport accessibility of the sports centre. The station’s access lines and platforms were built back in 1975, but construction stopped in 1976. The developer is now building two entrance halls and installing the electricity, air conditioning, movement and lighting control, and other systems at the station, which will be decorated with sports attributes without a direct connection to FC Spartak.

A transit hub will be built near the stadium, and renovation of Volokolamskoye Motorway will begin this year. Sergei Sobyanin emphasised that the parking area near the stadium could be used as a transport interchange hub on days when no games are scheduled at the stadium.

The Moscow authorities plan to hold a tender for the Volokolamskoye Motorway renovation in April or May 2014. The design is to include an overpass, an exit ramp to the region and an interchange.
