The Project of Filevskaya Embankment was Developed Taking into Account Wishes of Local Residents

Part of the embankment from Filevsky Park to Pyotr Fomenko Workshop Theater is being designed at present. A comfortable walking zone, running and cycling paths, viewing platforms, street food and rental pavilions, and storage units will appear there. Sergey Kuznetsov, Chief Architect of Moscow, spoke about it at Moscow Urban Forum.

Part of the embankment from Filevsky Park to Pyotr Fomenko Workshop Theater is being developed by Moscow City Construction Department in cooperation with Moskomarkhitektura, designers of Moskapstroy AO and ARTEZA landscape design company.

“When preparing design solutions, we did a lot of work with the local residents and tried to keep the current scenario of using embankments in specific areas, and improve the quality at the same time. A comfortable walking zone, running and cycling paths, viewing platforms, street food and rental pavilions, storage units will appear on the new embankments” - Sergey Kuznetsov informed.

The projected part of Filevskaya Embankment is conditionally divided into five segments, some of which fall within the boundaries of specially protected natural areas. This imposes a number of serious restrictions on design, such as certain areas and materials for solid street surfaces, special lighting, maximum preservation of the existing landscape, peculiarities of bank protection, street lights and others.

Despite the restrictions, the project provides for all the functionality necessary for good recreation of people on the banks of the Moskva River. New pedestrian zones, running and bicycle paths will form a single route along the entire embankment of the Moskva River.

“Apart from work on individual characteristics of each of the embankment sections, we also had the task to create a single object with a comfortable infrastructure. We identified and strengthened the best sides of each section. We took great care and attention working with plants in natural zones; we also found natural solutions for planning of the road and path network. We created comfortable public spaces in zones with a high density of built-up environment” - said Denis Kusenkov, Senior Partner of ARTEZA company.

As a result of this and other projects, the city gets comfortable public spaces. The length of each of them in the capital is two kilometers on average.
