Project of Tsimailo Lyashenko Partners Architectural Bureau Received Architizer A + Awards Prize

The finalists of the prestigious international Architizer A + Awards competition were announced on 6 July. The project «Airport in Gelendzhik» was chosen as the winner in the category «Unrealized transport objects» by the decision of the jury.

This year TLP is the only Russian bureau to receive the award. Here is what architects Alexander Tsimailo and Nikolai Lyashenko say about the project idea: «When designing the Airport in Gelendzhik, we were inspired by the identity of local nature, the main archetypes of which are: pebbles, pines and the sea. The building is a complex of low pavilions, shaped like sea pebbles. The all-glass facades merge the airport with the surrounding landscape, creating the feeling of a natural park. With the help of an artificially created reservoir and pine trees planted between the pavilions, we tried to enhance the resort-maritime character of the region, giving the guests from faraway places the opportunity to get into the atmosphere of the tropical south straight from the plane. »

The Architizer A + Awards is the largest award aimed to introduce and promote the best architectural projects of the year. Notable firms such as Zaha Hadid Architects, Heatherwick Studio and MAD Architects also received awards this year.
