New Park will Appear in Kommunarka next to Educational Cluster

13 March 2021

Residents of New Moscow will have a new park, and 20 thousand students will be able to study and live on the territory of the educational cluster in the administrative and business center Kommunarka. The main principles of organizing the space of these objects are connectivity, openness and functionality. Chief Architect of Moscow Sergey Kuznetsov spoke about this.

«The new park will naturally complement the actively developing territory of New Moscow, becoming another center of attraction in the area. Infrastructure and park art objects will dissolve in natural green space. An educational cluster will be created next to the park zone. It will house educational buildings of various fields — transport, industry and information technology, the service sector, and urban economy. The core of the territory will be a public and cultural center surrounded by educational buildings. The possibilities of the site and the unique natural landscape will make it possible to organize a special recreation place here, and educational spaces will have all the urban elements» — said Sergey Kuznetsov.

According to the project of Genplan Institute of Moscow, the park and the educational cluster are designed according to the principle of the connection between educational, sports, and recreational zones with places of study and residence. Each of the zones will be connected with the others thanks to carefully thought-out walking routes and transport structure.

The cluster was designed with the assumption that 70% of the classes will be practical. Therefore, educational buildings of various fields will have internal zoning according to related specialties and the type of area (educational and educational — production). About 17% of the cluster is given to sports facilities, while 38% will be occupied by residential buildings.

The main ideology of the educational center is the effective use of students’ time due to the variability and modularity of programs, as well as due to the transfer of non-major subjects to the distance format.

"In Kommunarka, in addition to a modern park around Malososensky pond, there will be a«supercollege «and a campus of one of the leading Moscow universities with a fitness center, dormitories, administrative and business buildings, residential buildings for teachers» — said Kotenkov, Head architectural and planning association of the territorial development of Genplan Institute of Moscow.
