New Luzhniki cable car to be completed by 2018 World Cup

04 April 2018

An overhead cable car between the Vorobyovy Gory observation point and Luzhniki Stadium will open this summer, said Deputy Moscow Mayor for Urban Development and Construction Marat Khusnullin.

“This project is proceeding quite quickly. An important element has already been completed: the steel support cables have already been put in place. They are ready, and the cable cars will be put in place soon, as well,” Mr Khusnullin noted.

According to the Deputy Mayor, the cable cars have already been purchased so it will not take long to install them.

“The developing contractor said it had purchased all the equipment and was ready to start assembling the cars. I believe the cables will be ready for the World Cup,” Marat Khusnullin said.

The cables are 737 metres long. It will have three stations: Kosygina Street, Vorobyovskaya Embankment and Luzhnetskaya Embankment. Passengers will be able to enjoy a panoramic view over the Moskva River. The new cable car system will help lighten transport issues for events at Luzhniki.

In the winter, the cable car will serve skiers going to the ski-ramp at Vorobyovy Gory, and in the summer, bicyclists, parents with prams and tourists will be able to use it.
