22 October 2013

At a Moscow Government meeting, a development plan for multifunctional zone No. 16 in the Nagatinsky Zaton District of the Southeastern Administrative Area was approved. “This is a comprehensive restructuring of a former industrial area. The old warehouses and other partially used facilities will be replaced with a residential area for up to 6,000 people,” Moscow Mayor said.

In addition to the construction of residential buildings, 7,000 jobs and a social infrastructure will be created in the district. Additionally, a pedestrian walk will be established along Nagatinsky Zaton.

Sergey Kuznetsov, Chief Moscow Architect and First Deputy Chairman of the Moscow Committee for Architecture and Urban Development, said that the total area of the zone is 33 hectares, or 42 hectares with an adjacent territory. A ship repair yard now occupies that area. Mr Kuznetsov said the construction would be funded by investors and the city would finance the construction of a fire station and a street network.

After the meeting, Mr Kuznetsov said the project is scheduled to be implemented within three or four years and that the ship repair yard will be relocated.

The project also includes the construction of a chapel on a spit (currently under construction), new sites, and the renovation of the road infrastructure. Garages, parking lots and a fire station for six posts will also be constructed. In the future, the residential area will feature 17-20 storey apartment buildings with a total area of 229,900 square metres (the area of the apartments will be 218,400 square metres for up to 6,100 people), a kindergarten for 220 children, a secondary school for 550 children, an education centre for up to 570 people with a preschool for 245 children and a school for 325 children, a fitness centre with a swimming pool of 2,000 square metres, and a social care centre for families and children with an area of 1,500 square metres.

In addition, an outpatient clinic for children and adults with a women’s health department will be built with a capacity of 850 people per shift and a green area “Boulevard along the Nagatinsky Branch and Nagatinsky Zaton” of 2.99 hectares will be improved. A 26,000 square metre multifunctional centre will be built for grocery stores and other shops, three office and business centres with 67,000 square metres, and hotels with 280 rooms (for 364 people), as well as two multi-storey garages for 1,631 and 630 vehicles.
