Massive shampooing job: Sprucing up the metro and MCC

14 August 2018

Hallways, platforms, underpasses and façades will be washed using special shampoos. Cleaners will focus on stained-glass windows as well as artistic architectural parts, including columns and sculptures. All the work will be done at night when the stations are closed.

The Moscow Metro and the Moscow Central Circle will carry out a huge clean-up job prior to City Day celebrations. Twelve stations on the metro’s Circle Line, including Kurskaya, Taganskaya, Novoslobodskaya, Belarusskaya and Prospekt Mira, are already having their façades and interiors thoroughly washed down.

By 8 September metro cleaners are expected to have washed hallways, platforms, underpasses and façades using special shampoos together with high-pressure water jets. This job will be done at night when there are no passengers around to get in the way.

In all, 365 metro and MCC station hallways, over 15,000 square metres of underpasses and 3,000 square metres of stairs will be washed. We will wash down 2,000 square metres of hallway façades and 4,000 square metres of marble wall-and-floor tiles in hallways, underpasses and platforms of the Circle Line stations and their columns.

Cleaners will focus on stained-glass windows and artistic architectural parts, including columns and sculptures, he added.

Moscow is to celebrate City Day on 8 and 9 September.
