Marc Chagall Embankment in Zilart will Become Barrier-Free

02 September 2020

The waterfront space in the district of Zilart is created taking into account the abilities of all groups of the population. Among others, persons with impaired mobility will be able to enjoy the new green space near the water. This was told by Chief Architect of Moscow, First Deputy Chairman of Moskomarkhitektura Sergey Kuznetsov.

The concept of waterfront improvement was developed by the Genplan Institute of Moscow and the Asadov Architectural Bureau in such a way as to take into account the needs of people with disabilities.

"All along the pedestrian route along the Moskva River there will be interactive information points with audio reproduction of information. Every 100-150 meters, there will be rest areas equipped with canopies, benches, telephones, signs, lamps, as well as alarms," Sergey Kuznetsov explained.

In addition, these places of rest will also become architectural accents decorated in the same style as the entire Marc Chagall Embankment. It is worth reminding that it refers to the avant-garde styles in art in its design.

The width of the pedestrian path here will be at least two meters, and the height of the kerbs at the edges of pedestrian paths will not exceed a comfortable 0.05 meters. Tactile strips performing a warning function will be placed at least 0.8 meters away from the object of information or the beginning of a dangerous area. The width of tactile strips will be 0.5 meters.

Special requirements are made for the covering of footpaths, sidewalks and ramps. It should be smooth and without gaps. The surface materials are selected so as not to create vibrations when people are moving, as well as to prevent sliding in damp or snowy weather.

Sales booths, signs, as well as lighting poles will be located outside the traffic lane. To facilitate perception, they will be painted in colors that contrast with the palette of the walking route.
