The lining of the walls at Solntsevo station of the Kalinin-Solntsevo line of the Moscow metro is almost complete. The entrance pavilions shaped as summer cottages have already been commissioned, says the chief architect of Moscow, Sergey Kuznetsov.

Solntsevo is located in the same-name neighborhoos, under Bogdanova street near the crossing with Poputnaya street. “The international competition for the architectural and artistic solution of the metro stations Solntsevo and Novoperedelkino was launched on behalf of the Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin. For Solntsevo station, the project by Nefa Architects was chosen. At all stages of the construction, the architects were supervised by the author. It was a lot of work, and we have the right to be proud of the result – the station will be in an almost 100% compliance with the original concept. The walls of the platforms are currently being lined and soon you’ll be able to see them for yourself”, said the chief architect of Moscow, Sergey Kuznetsov.

The architects decided to make sunlight a part of the design. For example, the 30 m deep platform will have lighting, which one can hardly tell apart from daylight. To do this, reflected light will be used, coming through openings in the architectural panels on the ceiling. An important addition is the illuminated pedestals located along the entire platform and imitating sunrays.

“From our side, everything is going according to the plan. Almost the entire station was already lined, we are waiting for the light fixtures to be delivered. The pavilions have been completed and commissioned,” said Daria Turkina, director of the architectural studio Nefa Architects, the authors of the projects.

According to her, some difficulties arose – they are considering substituting the supplier of the pedestals. Passengers might have to do without them. “The absence of the pedestals will, of course, be very upsetting, they are needed to create the resemblance of sunrays,” says the architect.

A few days ago, the entrance pavilion panels over the station vestibules were installed. On the outside, they resemble country cottages or village houses with gable rooves. The peculiarity of the structure is in the perforated glazed openings, through which daylight will penetrate. To protect the structure from rain, the openings are covered with acrylic glass.

PJSC "Lengiprotrans" is responsible for the construction of the stations, and the general contractor is OJSC "Mosinzhproekt".
