Embankment under Shelepikhinsky Bridge to be Improved

The embankment under Shelepikhinsky Bridge across the Moskva River, connecting Shmitovsky Proezd and Bolshaya Filevskaya Street, is going to be improved. Now, to get to the other side of the Bridge, Muscovites have to walk around for more than a kilometer. The news was announced by Chief Architect of Moscow, First Deputy Chairman of Moskomarkhitektura, Sergey Kuznetsov.

«In accordance with the policy of Mayor Sergey Sobyanin, the city goes on with the program of the embankments and surrounding territories improvement. After the reconstruction, a small section of the embankment with an area of only 2.76 hectares will become accessible to all residents of the district and will be included in the network of recreational spaces. Now, in order to get to the other side of Shelepikhinsky Bridge, Muscovites have to make more than a kilometer of additional way, taking service lanes and narrow sidewalks. And in the future they will be able to get to the place they need on foot or by bicycle» - said Sergey Kuznetsov.

Now in this area of the western part of Moscow, housing construction is actively developing. Modern residential complexes, such as Beregovoy, Only, Zapadny Port, are being built. At the same time, a convenient transport and developed social infrastructure appears, as well as public spaces where people can relax, feel closer to nature. After the reconstruction of the embankment under Shelepikhinsky Bridge, local residents will have this opportunity. First, the riverbank will be strengthened; for this purpose the builders will erect a retaining wall. And only then will the long-awaited improvement begin.

According to the State Research and Design Institute for Urban Development of the City of Moscow, the single operator and coordinator of the implementation of the concept of development of the coastal territories of the Moskva River and the Khimki Reservoir, it is planned that after the reconstruction on the embankment, there will be good conditions not only for unhindered movement of pedestrians along the river, but also for people’s comfortable rest.

«The design solution provides for the arrangement of the sidewalk along the river, as well as running and bicycle paths with a length of 200 and 230 meters, respectively » - explains the company’s director Dina Sattarova. «A little higher, on the hillside, we are planning to make a recreation area, where park lights and benches will be installed, and also beautiful shrubs will be planted.»
