Bright Accent - Bridge on Myasishchev Street Will Be Painted Red

05 December 2022

The automobile bridge in the alignment of Myasishchev Street will connect Khoroshyovo-Mnevniki District and Filyovskaya Poyma Microdistrict. The bridge will be about 350 meters long, and have a distinctive feature - structures painted in a bright red color. Earlier, Moscow Committee for Architecture prepared architectural concepts for seven bridges that could become new symbols of the city. This was announced by Chief Architect of Moscow Sergey Kuznetsov.

“The river along Myasishchev Street is navigable, which is reflected in the shape and dimensions of the bridge. In addition, the proximity of another bridge in the shape of a sail, which is planned to be built along Novozavodskaya Street, had the influence. The proposed engineering structure is designed to support and link them with a common idea. According to Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin, seven new bridges will be built across the Moskva River, four of them will appear in the Khoroshyovo-Mnevniki area,” Sergei Kuznetsov said.

Metal box beams are attached to the pylons and take the load of the main span. The shape of these structures resembles the rigging of a ship, which creates a bright, memorable silhouette in the current environment and evening landscapes on both sides of the Moskva River.

The total height of the structure at the pylon installation sites will be about 25 meters from the water level. At the same time, the width of the main span across the river will be about 120 meters, and the height of the underbridge clearance will be 11 meters, which will allow navigation and movement of water transport. The project was developed by Leonhardt, Andra und Partners (Germany) and TPO PRIDE, technical support and consultations were provided by Intermost OOO.

The bridge in the alignment of Myasishchev Street will be painted with several layers of durable paints. The color of the spans will be light gray, and the side parts, together with the pylons, are supposed to be painted in red. “It will certainly add bright accents to the engineering structure, and make the image of the bridge more recognizable. The expected frequency of maintenance is twice a year,” said Oleg Ivanov, technical director of TPO PRIDE.

“This bridge will not be the only one painted in red, the color is also supposed to be used for the other three bridges under construction on the Mnyovnikovskaya floodplain, further strengthening and uniting the development of adjacent territories with a common concept,” Kuznetsov explained.

The traffic is going to move in four lanes. On one side of the roadway of the bridge, a safe pedestrian zone 3.1 meters wide will be organized, which will also be used by people with special needs. On the other side of the roadway, a combined bicycle-pedestrian section 6.25 meters wide will be made.

“Despite the fact that the bridge is considered to be automobile, it will be as comfortable as possible for pedestrians. On the way to the metro, to the new Mnyovniki station, people will be able to admire the river from observation platforms provided on both sides of the road at the locations of the pylons. And the allocated lane for cycling will have a positive impact on the formation and development of a unified system of cycling routes in the capital,” added Chief Architect of Moscow.

As it is already known, in Khorokhyovo-Mnevniki , it is planned to build two bicycle bridges on Ostrovnaya Street and towards Fili Park, and two more automobile bridges on Novozavodskaya and Myasishchev streets. In addition, an automobile bridge will be constructed at the alignments of Beregovoy and Prichalny passages. Pedestrian bridges will also be built in the areas of Nagatinsky Backwater and Yakimanka.
