Bridge With Public Spaces Will Connect Basmanny District and Lefortovo

A new bridge across the Yauza will be built on the territory of the university cluster of Bauman Moscow State Technical University. It will connect the residential building with dormitories planned for construction, and will also become a convenient inter-district connection for pedestrians and cyclists.

“The new bridge is a response to the requests of the residents of Basmanny and Lefortovo. Besides, it will connect two parts of the new educational cluster, There are already two bridges about 300 meters from the construction site. But Gospitalny Bridge is more like an automobile bridge, it has rather long traffic lights switching intervals, and  Rubtsov Bridge is inconvenient for parents with strollers and groups of people with limited mobility. Also, the new bridge will make the approach to the stadium and the sports club on the left bank of the Yauza more comfortable. Its feature will be public spaces integrated into the design,” - said Sergey Kuznetsov, Chief Architect of Moscow, First Deputy Chairman of the Moscow Committee for Architecture. 

According to the project of Genplan Institute of Moscow, the building will be equipped with four stairways, and from the banks of the Yauza it will be possible get onto the bridge along the ramps. They will be convenient for people riding bicycles or electric scooters. There are two elevators for people with limited mobility. Public spaces integrated into its design will be a characteristic feature of the bridge. 

“We wanted to somehow play upon the fact that the bridge will be built in one of the centers of student and scientific life of the city and the country. Thus, the idea was born with a space for recreation and study on the bridge and a skatepark built into the structure itself. I am sure that in the warm season the bridge will become a local center of attraction,” said Vitaly Lutz, one of the authors of the architectural solution, head of the perspective projects department of Moscow Genplan Institute.

The bridge will be 100 meters long and 7.5 meters wide. The ramps are 105 and 135 meters long and 4.5 meters wide.
