Archcouncil rejected design project of Michurinsky Prospekt metro station

14 November 2018

Archcouncil of Moscow has rejected the design project of the metro station at the intersection of Michurinsky Prospekt and Udaltsova Street, in the south-west section of the Third Interchange Circuit. Designers proposed to perform the platform design in Chinese style.

The station under discussion Michurinsky Prospekt of the Third Interchange Circuit of Moscow Metro is being constructed at the address: 36th microdistrict, Ramenki District, at the intersection of Michurinsky Prospekt and Udaltsova Street. It will provide an interchange for the same-named station of Kalininsko-Solntsevskaya Line. Hall No.1, according to the project, has underground crossing under Udaltsova Street.

“We had to reject the project as it had arisen a lot of remarks. We decided to review it later, I think, before the end of the year. The major concerns refer to the fact that issues of transport integration have been left unsolved: Transport interchange hub project has not been finalized yet. There is also a big concern about station design, the authors are suggesting Chinese theme as the construction of the station will be performed by Chinese company. There are such examples in the world architecture when nationality of the builders leaves its marks, when international brigades are involved. There is nothing wrong about this. But, on the other hand, there is an opinion of the local residents who have been speaking today. We’ll see, whether it is possible to preserve mutual interests, particularly, to include into ornament referrals not only to traditional Chinese patterns, but also to Michurin. So we’ll work in this direction too,” – Chief Architect of Moscow Sergey Kuznetsov marked.

Within framework of Archcouncil the designers suggested four variants of design, both for platform area of the station and for entrance halls. The key theme of all three variants are Chinese patterns, the fourth one suggested style of architectural bionics: perforated metal on the ceiling, tunnel wall of pale green shade. The entrance hall in this variant if design is also green.

The most interesting version, as for the members of Archcouncil, includes indianred columns, patterned light panels, mounted on the beam system: “Beam system serves as a decorative element, and light fixture in the form of the panels with built-in lamps are attached to them. It is planned that is will have Chinese wedding ornament with floral patterns,” – the representative of OOO Siarasisi Rus told.

The second version of the station offers use of light grey concrete, and projection light fixture will reproduce a composition of floral patterns on the smooth surface. The base illumination of the station are beams with the light fixture built-in into columns. Projectors will provide illumination to the central area. As for the inland interchange hall, it will be of complex geometrical shape and performed in light grey shades. There have also been offered variants of less complicated façade: in graphite and golden-red colors and also in lime shade with grey pixelized inclusions.

The experts advised the designers to use services of Chinese specialist in ornaments to avoid confusion. It was also suggested to rename the station of TPK to avoid confusion among passengers.
