15 March 2021

Thirty-eight projects in five nominations became finalists of the Moscow Prize for Architecture and Urban Planning-2021 (Moscow Architectural Prize). According to Chief Architect of Moscow, Chairman of the jury of the Award Sergey Kuznetsov, very different projects with high quality architectural solutions are presented there.

This year, 140 applications were submitted for the award. This is the largest number in the entire history of the competition. The expert jury selected 38 nominees in 5 nominations: "The best architectural and urban planning solution for an object of temporary and permanent residence", "The best architectural and urban planning solution of a social infrastructure facility ”,“ The best architectural and urban planning solution for a transport infrastructure facility ”,“ The best architectural and urban planning solution for an apartment building under the renovation program ”and“ The best architectural and urban planning solution for an administrative, business and commercial facility ”. Full list of projects can be found here.

“This year we can see many outstanding and very different projects in terms of size, purpose and format among the finalists. Here there are local and large-scale projects, skyscrapers and regional houses of culture, metro stations and bridges. Along with two new projects in MIBC Moscow-City, reconstruction projects are presented, such as MDM. Very decent architecture is presented in the field of schools and preschool institutions, in chamber apartments, and in large residential areas. Ten-fifteen years ago it was difficult to imagine that Moscow would be able to demonstrate such a number of projects of the highest quality, capable of competing at a serious international level. This indicates that the work on building professional competence, including Moscow Architectural Prize, is not in vain, that a professional circle of architects and customers has been formed in Moscow, and they are ready to work on the creation of conceptual, interesting, well-thought-out objects" - noted Sergey Kuznetsov.

Let us recollect that any capital construction project that has received a certificate of approved architectural and urban planning decisions in 2020 can be submitted for the award. Winners are selected in two stages. The announcement of the winners will traditionally be timed to the Architect’s Day. Laureates will receive up to 5 prizes in the amount of 1 million rubles each.

Moscow Architectural Prize was established in 2017 with the support of Mayor of Moscow Sergey Sobyanin. The award is presented for the development of the most expressive, original, high-quality architectural and urban solutions of capital construction projects, the implementation of which meets the challenges of creating a comfortable urban environment and contributes to the future development of the construction industry in Moscow. Until 2017, Moskomarkhitektura celebrated the best projects of the year within the framework of the Prize of Archcouncil of Moscow for five years.
