School for 1100 students in Kartmazovo village will have fantasy facades

16 November 2022

A school for 1,100 students in the village of Kartmazovo will be built according to the project of Gafa architects. «Houses» of lamellas will form a picturesque, but structural facade. This was announced by Chief Architect of Moscow, First Deputy Chairman of Moscow Committee for Architecture Sergey Kuznetsov.

«As Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin previously reported, in total, the construction of more than 50 kindergartens and schools has been planned for 2022, but even more are at the design stage. For example, an excellent four-story school with an area of 15,833 sq.m. will appear in Kartmazovo. Planning decisions of the building are conceptually connected with the facade. Classrooms face the street with standard windows, and halls, common areas and recreation areas are highlighted with stained-glass windows with corner endings,» Sergey Kuznetsov specified.

The school will be erected in Moskovskoye settlement, the village of Kartmazovo, plot 16/1. For finishing, clinker tiles, metal lamellas, plaster will be used. Accent colors are borrowed from the surrounding facades of Filatov Lug residential complex, which forms a uniform architectural ensemble of the residential development. The lamellas create an intriguing optical effect. The imposition of colored vertical slats on a field of contrasting color gives a «moire»: depending on the optic angle, the color palette changes.

«It is children’s emotions, children’s response to architecture and environment that are important for us. Therefore, we tried to create a space that should be the base and support for both physical and intellectual development,» said Gafa architects.

The territory of the school is divided into several functional areas, including a playground, a sports block, a park and a greenhouse, a garden, and a central square.
