Reconstruction of the Grand Sports Arena in Luzhniki was fully completed. Each element of the Stadium — from the football field and the fan stands to the sound amplification systems, the media façade and the video screens — are completely ready for use.

«Here is my official statement: Luzhniki Stadium, in accordance with the program for preparation for the World Cup 2018, was completed and commissioned. All elements, starting from the football field and the fan stands to the sound amplification systems, the media façade and the video screens — everything is completely ready for operation. All it takes now is for the „Luzhniki“ operator to get used to the new home and learn how to use it, so, we can start working,» said Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin during the inspection of the sports complex.

«The main world trend today is the struggle for the mind and preferences of the „smart“ citizen, who clearly understands the environment in which he wants to live, knows how to influence its development, plans to improve the conditions of his home, work and leisure. There is a trend for increasing the complexity of projects in terms of their integration and multifunctionality. The area of the Luzhniki is not being developed for short-term investments like the 2018 World Cup, but for attracting citizens to sport, creating comfortable conditions for them throughout all seasons. This is a good example of the transformation of a sports project into a „smart“ project aimed at further development of the area,» says the Chief Architect of Moscow, Sergey Kuznetsov.

Ahead of us, is a large amount of work for the improvement of the area, installation of engineering networks and security control for major events. The renovation process will involve 70% of the complex’s territory (112 of 159 hectares). As part of the improvement of the Olympic complex, 11 historical fountains will be reconstructed, 20 thousand square meters of flower beds planted, 1.1 thousand street lamps and more than 500 benches with a unique design will be installed.

Previously, the work on the improvement of the Luzhnetskaya embankment was completed: the driveway was reduced to 2 lanes, we built bike paths, tracks for walking, running, and roller skating. Along the embankment, in the shade of the trees, there are six workout sites with a total area of 400 sq. m with outdoor workout equipment and cover made of impact-absorbing rubber crumbs.

The reconstruction of the Luzhniki stadium began in the first quarter of 2014 as a part of the preparations for the World Cup 2018in Russia in, which will be held from June 14 to July 15. The games will be held at 12 stadiums in 11 cities of Russia. In Moscow, it will be the stadiums Luzhniki and Otkritie Arena.
