Facades of Concert Hall in the City to Become the Face for the World’s Largest Clock

01 November 2016

Clock on the dome of the Concert hall in Moscow City with 64 meters in diameter will break the world record of the Guinness book. Moscow Architecture Committee has approved the modified design of the hall facades, which will resemble a pique box with the clock mechanism, reported Chief Architect of Moscow Sergey Kuznetsov.

The Concert Hall is being constructed in the 6th plot of Moscow International Business Centre “Moscow-City”, over the basement floors of the central core. Except of convertible hall under the glass dome with the diameter of 64 meters, the building will hold floors with restaurants, cafes and bars, beach club, SPA and fitness centers, as well as art-galleries, beauty salons and other recreational and leisure premises, with the total square of about 40 thousand sq.m.

As Chief Architect of Moscow Sergey Kuznetsov reported, Moscow Architecture Committee has adopted adjusted Concert Hall design, which amended facades design and adjoining town square.

“Changes in design, which required issuance of new Certificate of Architectural and Urban Planning Solution, are mainly connected to the changes of nature of central public space in the City. Initially, it was created as a transit space, with travelators which quickly bring main flow of people from Kransopresnenskaya Embankment and Kutuzovsky Prospekt to the planned building of the Moscow Government and Mayor’s Office, but later, with transfer of the plot 15 for commercial development, the content of the square required radical revision. Essentially, the trestle for entrance from the plot 2 has been excluded and at this place real town square appeared where it is possible to host diverse cultural events” — told Kuzntesov.

According to the Chief Architect, the building of the Concert Hall itself, which is the center of the composition of MIBC, is resolved as a giant clock face where time is indicated by running luminant pointer. “The Clock will be seen from all office towers of the City and from the pedestrian level. This will be the world’s largest clock which even leaves behind current record of the Guinness Book — the clock 43 m in diameter on the new sky-scraper in Mecca” , - announced Kuznetsov.

Atrium of the main entrance will resemble bare clock mechanism, and escalators will look like wrap springs. Facades will get image of precious pique box with clockwork by means of steel panels “gilded” by titanium coating and silk-screen printing of ornamental patterns on the glass.

In summertime restaurants on the third floor of the complex will have their venue on the terraces and the dome will be half-open providing sunlight access to the beach club.
