100 days until 2018 FIFA World Cup

06 March 2018

The VDNKh ice rink will host a celebration marking 100 days before the start of the 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia. The event will involve 6,000 Moscow volunteers who passed the selection process and have started training for work at the World Cup.

The festivities will be attended by TV host Yana Churikova, and Moscow ambassador of the 2018 FIFA World Cup and three-time Olympic champion in synchronised swimming Maria Kiselyova.

The festival will begin with a flash mob of volunteers. Then, they will enjoy a concert, ice contests, a prize drawing and a VR-cinema of an international news channel. After putting on special virtual reality glasses, viewers will be able to watch panoramic videos about the World Championship stadiums, films taken from the International Space Station and in outer space, footage from the cockpit, and videos about Russian nature and extreme sports.

The volunteer training programme began on 25 February. It provides general and functional training, and volunteer managers (team leaders) will undergo additional training.

It is volunteers who will be the face of Moscow during the tournament. They will be the first people that hundreds of thousands of fans who come to the World Cup will see. The volunteers will provide guests of the capital with directions, take part in city events (including the FIFA Fan Fest on Vorobyovy Gory), and answer questions about Moscow.

The festival will start at the VDNKh rink on Tuesday, 6 March, at 5 pm.
