New business zones to take advantage of MCC, TIC
Up to 55.5 million square metres of buildings and 134 transit hubs/links will be built along these new transport lines.
Commercial properties near the Moscow Central Circle (MCC) railway and the Moscow Metro’s Third Interchange Circuit (TIC) are to increase by 10-15 percent, Sergei Lyovkin, Head of the Department for Urban Development, noted, while speaking at the MIPIM real estate exhibition, conference and networking event in Cannes, France.
The planned areas cover about 6,100 hectares, he said. The city is planning to build up to 55.5 million square metres of new buildings in these areas. Plans to reorganise and develop 815 hectares of residential area and 830 hectares of production facilities are underway. In all, 134 permanent transit hubs/links are currently under construction. «The total urban development potential of the transit hubs/links is 14.5 million square metres, and there are plans to auction off ten transit hubs/link projects in 2017,» Mr. Lyovkin said. The new transit hubs will reduce congestion on city streets, including the central districts, and make the city more people-friendly.
The city’s polycentric urban development strategy mostly aims to create new business zones around the MCC and TIC, Lyovkin noted.
The MCC opened for service on 10 September 2016, with fast Lastochka (Swallow) commuter trains circling through 26 city districts where about two million people live. The MCC immediately became an integral element of the city’s transport system and reduced congestion on several main metro lines. Over 300,000 people ride MCC trains daily. The number of interchanges has been halved for many passengers who also spend about half the time en route.
