City to plant 500 trees and 7,000 shrubs at Zaryadye Park in 14 days

10 April 2017

This elaborate and exciting new city centre concept park will be open this summer.

In April, about 500 trees and 7,000 shrubs will be planted at Zaryadye Park, said Deputy Moscow Mayor for Urban Development and Construction Marat Khusnullin.

«An entire forest will spring to life at Zaryadye in the next two to three weeks. The larger trees will be over seven metres tall, and they will take root immediately,» Mr Khusnullin noted.

A promenade zone is also being built. «We are paving paths, we have brought in the materials, including high-quality granite stones, cobblestones, curbs and many modern lamps,» Mr Khusnullin added.

Apart from the landscaping, the park’s major facilities are underway. The main structure for a bridge overhanging the Moskva River is almost complete, and the Philharmonic Hall façades are to be completed before the year is out. The park’s underground facilities are also underway. «Apart from the park’s 12-hectare surface area, there are several underground sections, including car parks, themed attractions ‘Flying over Russia’ and ‘Flying over Moscow’ and an ice cave. By the way, we are already assembling the ice-making equipment,» Mr Khusnullin said.

Over 2,000 people are involved in the Zaryadye project.

Located at the site of the demolished Rossiya Hotel, Zaryadye Park will link pedestrian and tourist routes between Varvarka Street, the Bolshoi Moskvoretsky Bridge and Vorobyovy Gory (Hills). The park is to receive up to 12 million people annually with no admission fee. It will be open 24 hours a day.
