Sofia Embankment

For Moscow, the historically formed radial ring planning structure is characteristic: the city consists of streets radiating from the centre and several transportation rings (Moscow Ring Auto Road, Third transport ring, Sadovoye, Boulevard ring). The core of this structure is the Moscow Kremlin and Red Square, in front of which the design area is located. The competition review territory is located on 3 hectares, bounded on the north by the Sofia Embankment of the Moscow River, on the south by Bolotnaya Square, on the west by Serafimovich Street, and on the east by Faleevsky Lane.

The subject of the competition is the architectural concept for multifunctional complex development, located on the area adjacent to the Sofia Embankment. The project envisages the creation of housing and apartment complexes with underground parking, office and shopping facilities, as well as landscaped interior and adjacent areas, including the Sofia Embankment of the Moscow River.

The competition will be held in two stages. The first stage is the qualification round, in which six teams will be selected to participate in the second round. The second stage is the concept competition. The selected teams will present their architectural concepts, and there will be a Winner selected and a rating assigned, according to these concepts.

Each of 6 teams selected according to the results of the first stage of the competition are compensated 4 million roubles with VAT for expenses incurred developing the concept.

The customer confirms its intention to develop the project on the basis of the Concept selected for implementation, as well as to involve the Winner in the development of documentation during the "Draft Documentation" stage. Participants in the second round reserve the exclusive rights to their prepared Concept.

On October 23, during a press conference in the press center MIA “Russia today” the winner was announced. It’s became the architectural Bureau of Sergey Skuratov.

The winner was determined by a system of preferential voting of all jury members. The three finalists also included Steven Holl Architects (USA) and Miralles Tagliabue EMBT (Spain). “A slight difference of votes of the jury in favor of the projects, — said Sergei Kuznetsov, — is, on the one hand, an indicator of high quality of bids, on the other, understanding the difference of points of view on developing such places”.

CEO of “Capital Group” Valentine Stanovova noted the high level of development of each project, including the concept of the winner. The timing will clarify upon conclusion of the contract.
