The competition will have two stages. At the first stage the jury will carefully examine the submitted applications to select the best teams; at the second stage, on a fee basis, the chosen teams will develop architectural and urban planning concepts for the 5 renovation pilot sites in accordance with the technical design specifications.

Following the competition results, the development concept for each site will be chosen and become the basis for the further area planning project. The winners will be brought to further development as supervisors.

The international jury and expert group have been formed to assess the competition projects. The jury members include the heads of relevant departments, Higher School of Economics, Graduate School of Urbanism, RANEPA, Russian Academy of Architecture and Construction Sciences, members of Public Chamber of Moscow, Union of architects of Russia, Union of Moscow Architects, Russian and international architects and experts. The competition will also host round tables, lectures, expert discussions on renovation of dilapidated housing and experience of the previous programs.

“The competition will attract the best Russian and foreign architects to implement the renovation program,” said the Chief Architect of Moscow, Sergey Kuznetsov. “We also expect to engage a large pool of experts, hold public discussions with urbanists, sociologists, economists, having obtained the maximum possible expert evaluation even at the stage of preparation of technical design specifications.”
