The project of street and road network ZILART was based on the principle of separation of pedestrian, bicycle and vehicular flows, comfortable public transport and safety of pedestrians are on top priority, chief architect of Moscow Sergey Kuznetsov told.

Each street with driveways will be composed of seven elements. Near the buildings there is provided a space for café tables, summer terraces can be placed here, as well as advertising and ornamental plants. Then comes pedestrian area, 5-7 m in width, free from street furniture. Paths with trees on both sides of the street will serve as a buffer between pedestrian area and road. Besides, separately, cycle lanes will be laid, 1.5 m in width. At the intersections it is planned to make small squares, and the intersections will be raised at the level of the sidewalk. Visitor parkings have been designed along the streets.

“Of course, raised intersections and pedestrian crossings, which are the European standards of street and road networks, can be found in Moscow, but on this scale it has been applied for the first time only in ZILART. It is based on the principle of separation of pedestrian, cycle and vehicular flows, which provides safety to the pedestrians. All in all, 35 km of roads will be laid here. It will ease the load on the traffic network of the Southern Administrative District by 20-25 per cent”, Sergey Kuznetsov reported.

Intersections and pedestrian crossings on the inner streets with vehicular traffic, raised at the level of the sidewalks will allow to create a visual effect of the common space at the intersections and will make drivers decrease the speed. The surface of the intersections will be coated with granite paver stones, this way enhancing grip of the wheels and also increasing pavement bearing strength. The carriageway is separated from the pedestrian area with the street lamps.

At the intersections of carriageways, as well as at the intersections of pedestrianized streets with the carriageways it is planned to make squares. These are potential spots of meetings and reference points. They will also be paved with the paver stones, while cycle lanes in such places will be marked with paint or contrast pavage. Navigation stelea will be erected at the squares, Wi-Fi and spots to charge the mobile phone will also be set up there.

Moreover, a network of cycle lanes has also been designed at ZIL area. The inner roads will have one-side lanes on both sides of the street. They are planned to be made of colored asphalt. “On the territory of the residential complex ZILART, which is being erected by LSR Group, the cycle lanes will also be equipped. To ease the transport and environmental load on the district a concept ‘yard without cars’ has been implemented in every yard. And for personal vehicles an underground parking for 10,900 cars has been created,” emphasized the urban planning value of the project ZILART General Director of JSC LSR. Nedvizhimost-M Ivan Romanov.

Visitor parkings will be placed along the streets, and they are planned to be raised 50mm above the carriageways. This is a widespread method in the world practice, which visually makes the carriageway narrower, making the drivers slow down, besides, it structurizes the parking. The parkings are separated from the carriageway and the sidewalks with the granite borders, plus they are fenced from the curbs with a line of bars spaced at 2 m intervals.
