Sergey Kuznetsov to design opera ‘Magic Flute’ for Helikon-opera

Helikon-opera will put on four premiers in the 29th season, they are: The Magic Flute, Orlando, Bluebeard, and Mr. Georg Ots. The Golden Cockerel will open the season.

“The first premier will take place on the stage of Stravinsky Hall, and it will be an opera by great Wolfgang-Amadeus Mozart ‘The Magic Flute’. It will be performed in two variants: for adults and for children, its premier is on 14 November. The Stage Director is Ilya Ilin, the Music Director is Valeriy Kiryanov, the Set Designers – artistic group under the leadership of Chief Architect of Moscow Sergey Kuznetsov”, - press service of the theatre reported to Intefax on Monday.

The next premier will be opera ‘Orlando’ by George Frideric Handel. It is scheduled to March 2019. The Stage Director will be Georgy Isaakyan, the Music Director – Andrew Lawrence-King (UK). The outstanding Russian composer Sergey Prokofiev’s grandson Gabriel Prokofiev will also participate in the project.

The premier of operetta ‘Bluebeard’ by Jacques Offenbach staged by winner of the Third International Contest among Young Opera Directors “Nano-opera” Ruslan Bitsoev will be shown in May 2019.

Besides, in July 2019 Dmitry Bertman will stage the project Mr. Georg Ots dedicated to the 100th anniversary o the singer.

The performances of ‘Golden Cockerel’ are dedicated to the 100th anniversary of Stanislavski and Nemirovich-Danchenko Moscow Musical Theatre. The performances of the opera ‘Eugene Onegin’ in November will also be dedicated to the same event.
In October-November Helikon-opera on the stage of Stravinskiy Hall will host the theaters within the Festival of Music Theaters ‘See the Music’. The audience will be shown the performances from Chelyabinsk, Volgograd, and Saint-Petersburg.

One of the special projects of the season will be the first concert in Stravinskiy Hall with the participation of actors of Deutsche Oper am Rhein (German opera on the Rhine) (4 September), International Tenor Competition of the Elena Obraztsova Foundation called José Carreras Grand Prix(from 10 to 15 September), the Christmas Opera Ball in December. At the end of the season, the theatre will host plays of Chekhov International Theatre Festival.

What is more, in the 29th season Helikon-opera will travel to a tour in Greece in September, in Saint-Petersburg in October, and after that in Berlin, Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk, Vienna, Estonia.  

Throughout the season historical excursions for adults and children will be organized in Helikon opera. From 2019 excursion route will include visiting artists rooms, named after Great Persons of Art, having a glance at their belongings and photographs.
