08 May 2018

By the end of 2018 Moskomarkhitektura will coordinate all projects under the program of reconstruction of 39 movie theaters in today’s regional centers, said the chief architect of Moscow Sergey Kuznetsov.

Soviet theaters are now obsolete, many of them are not used for their intended purpose or have been shut down. The new reconstruction program will bring 39 of them back to life.

“The outdated buildings should become new regional centers, focused on the needs of local residents.” Moskomarkhitektura has already coordinated architectural and town-planning solutions for 35 theaters according to this program; by the end of the year the remaining facilities will be reviewed,” says Sergey Kuznetsov.

The projects are executed by the owner of the ADG group based on a unique concept, the idea of which is to offer residents of the suburban areas of Moscow everything they need to have a comfortable and interesting life in their neighborhood: vast leisure opportunities, goods and services of daily necessity, and up-to-date public areas.

On the first sites, construction work is already underway. Reconstruction began in the following theaters: Angara at 7 Chongarsky Boulevard; Budapesht at 17 Leskova Street, Sofia at 31 Sireneviy Boulevard, Orbita – 27 Andropova Prospekt, and Kirgizia at 81 Zeleny Prospekt.

“In summer, active construction works will start in other 20 sites, and permits have been obtained for almost the entire network, the reconstruction of all facilities will be launched by the end of 2018,” added Kuznetsov.

Earlier, it was reported that Mosgosexpertiza had agreed on 29 projects for the reconstruction of Soviet regional movie theaters: seven theaters in the Southern Administrative District; six cinemas in the Northern Administrative District; five cinemas in the Eastern Administrative District; four cinemas in the North-Eastern Administrative District; three cinemas in South-Western Administrative District; two cinemas in the Western Administrative District and one cinema in each of South-Eastern and North-Western Administrative District.
