Moscow Spring A Capella festival to run in Moscow from 27 April to 9 May

The French vocal group Opus Jam that won the Grand Prix of the Open International Vocal A Capella Competition as part of last year’s Moscow Spring A Capella festival has invited singers from all over the world to the Russian capital.

The Moscow Spring A Capella festival will run from 27 April to 9 May. The central event, the same as last year, will be the Open International Vocal A Capella Competition.

The competitors – solo singers and choirs – will have a chance to perform before millions of people in Moscow at numerous fest venues.

To date, applications for the contest have come from 15 countries: Russia, the United States, Britain, Germany, Austria, Italy, France, Denmark, Hungary, Latvia, Israel, Kazakhstan, China, Korea and India. Would-be contestants have until 6pm on 15 March to fill out their application forms in Russian or English on the festival’s official website.

The contest brings together vocalists specialising in a capella singing (without instrumental accompaniment). The applicants are required to have at least a year-long a capella experience and not be younger than 18 by the time the competition begins.

During the Moscow Spring festival the city will become a huge concert stage with concerts held both at the usual Moscow Seasons fest venues and even on the roofs of buildings and balconies. Each day, the public will be treated to dozens of wonderful concerts, plus dishes from Moscow restaurateurs and a wide choice of souvenirs and entertainment for the entire family: theatrical shows, song and music workshops, open training sessions and lots more.

All the concerts and events will be free of charge.

The first Moscow Spring A Capella contest took place in spring 2017. As many as 168 soloists, vocal groups and choirs from 12 countries made it into the main round. Every day, they sang at various city venues. People in Moscow were able to enjoy a total of 1,200 hours of live singing.
