A 3D facade imitating a forest: New and unusual fitness centres in Moscow

17 August 2018

Fitness and wellness centres in Constructivist and futuristic styles will appear in Moscow. Two new family sports and fitness centres with spacious gyms, indoor court sports facilities and swimming pools will be built in the Northeastern and Zelenograd administrative areas.

One, in the Constructivist style with panoramic windows and an imitation wood façade finish, at 59 Anadyrsky Proyezd; the other, with a futuristic 3D façade, on Aleksandrovka Street. The design projects for both have been approved by Moscow’s Architectural and Urban Planning Commission (Moskomarkhitektura).

“New buildings for sports centres will take into account modern sports and fitness trends. Imitation wood facades, solar shading decorative fins and other design details allow our architects to create a comfortable space for sports and recreation,” Sergei Kuznetsov, Moscow’s Chief Architect, said.

Imitation wood finish and athlete silhouettes

The fitness centre in Anadyrsky Proyezd will have five floors with rooms for coach staff on the upper floor, a children’s swimming pool, dressing rooms, shower rooms and a waiting room for parents on the fourth floor, an exercise gym on the third floor, and a combined area on the first and second floors with two swimming pools for adults, Jacuzzi, show rooms and dressing rooms. The new sports centre will have 5,000 square metres of floor space.

The building was designed in the Constructivist style: rectangular facades with a wood-imitating finish; panoramic windows; outdoor panels with the silhouettes of swimmers, runners and gymnasts evoking associations with sports.

Panoramic windows and 3D futuristic façade

The new sports and fitness centre on Aleksandrovka Street in Zelenograd will be a three-storey building with more than 4,500 square metres of floor space: exercise gyms on the upper floor; indoor courts for volleyball and basketball on the second floor; swimming pools for adults and children, a separate swimming pool for aqua aerobics, shower rooms, dressing rooms and a sauna on the ground floor.

The building will have panoramic windows and a 3D façade in a futuristic style: solar shading green metal fins will evoke a forest and protect the gyms from a hot sun.

The city is planning to build 51 sports facilities over three years. These include a four-storey fitness and wellness complex with gyms, massage rooms and a sauna in the Gagarinsky District, a centre with a swimming pool, dressing rooms and gyms in Novo-Peredelkino, a sports complex with a swimming pool, exercise rooms and a parking area in the Preobrazhensky District. Thirteen sports facilities will be put into operation as soon as this year.
